Griff Williams, CFA, Co-founder and CIO at Milltrust Agricultural Investments, is primarily responsible for advising on the investment portfolios for Milltrust’s segregated and collective accounts.
Mr Williams is a New Zealand national and comes from a farming family in the North Island where he continues to have dairy farming interests. Prior to joining Milltrust, Mr Williams was Head of Europe and interim CEO at Itau Asset Management in London, responsible for Institutional sales across the region. Previous to this he was Institutional Solutions Strategist at Pioneer Global Investments in London and prior to that Investment Director for Railpen Investments, one of the UK’s largest Pension Funds where he managed the global equities portfolio. Mr Williams commenced his career in Brazil where he worked as an investment analyst for Banco Bozano Simonsen based in Rio de Janeiro.
Mr. Williams is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration degree from Victoria University, Wellington. In addition to English, Mr. Williams is a fluent Portuguese speaker. He resides with his family in London.
Simon Hopkins, CEO, Founder of Milltrust International Group, Co-Founder of Milltrust Agricultural Investments and Member of Investment Committee, has been investing into Agriculture for over a decade, most prominently backing Australian ASX listed MSF Sugar business, which returned 3x over 8 years, and was taken over by Mitr Phol of Thailand in 2012. Mr. Hopkins was also on the advisory board of New Zealand’s largest dairy fund Southern Pastures LP, which has since been backed by global institutions like AP1 among others.
Mr. Hopkins founded Fortune Group, a diversified multi asset class advisory firm overseeing USD 7bn which was successfully sold to Close Bros Group plc. in 2010. Mr. Hopkins has over 25 years’ investment experience in banking and alternative investments, including senior roles at S.G. Warburg, UBS, HSBC James Capel and Nomura before founding Fortune Group in 1996.
Mr. Hopkins comes from a rural community in Staffordshire, UK, and his family have had a history of farming in the UK and Australia for several generations. Mr. Hopkins holds an honours degree in Law from the University of Bristol. In addition to English, Mr. Hopkins is a fluent French speaker. He now resides with his family in Singapore.
Mark Ebert, Chairman of Milltrust International Group and Member of the MAI Investment Committee, plays an active role overseeing the firm’s private placements business, which is focussed on the agricultural sector and he serves on the advisory boards of a number of agricultural investment companies.
Mr. Ebert is a pioneer in the Private Equity industry, having founded numerous private equity groups and held senior roles in many of the leading private equity houses in a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years.
Mr. Ebert was the global head of M&A for UBS, co-head of Panmure Gordon and helped found its private equity business Lyceum Capital. He was also a founding director of Akina Capital, a spin-out of Lombard Odier & Cie. private equity group managing over $1bn in mid-market buyout sector, and he subsequently served on the funds’ board for 7 years. He also served as the Chairman of Fortune Group, a company founded by Mr. Hopkins.
Mr. Ebert is a qualified chartered accountant and he has recently completed a Masters in Agriculture from the Royal Agricultural University. Mr. Ebert comes from an Agricultural community in Wisconsin, although more latterly he has lived in Switzerland.
